Oh dear, it looks like a rather sad situation unfolding at Newnham College! A dead Pinus tree in The Pightle is in need of attention, with plans submitted to fell it. It's interesting to hear the tree survey noted a badger set nearby, which might have played a part in its decline.
Pinus (Dead) - Remove tree to ground level or fell/dismantle tree leaving a standing habitat of 4 metres. Reason - We wish to fell this dead Pinus. It has been dying for a few years now. As stated on the 2025 tree survey - 'The tree is in a low occupancy area. Vegetation growing at base of the tree. A full assessment of the base impeded due to access restrictions. Tree health advanced stage of decline (tolerable risk - code 341). Badger set under the tree. Likely contributed to the decline.
